Birds, led by Stanley Tate, Times Georgian columnist.
Stanley Tate, Columnist with the Times-Georgian, will lead a “Walk with the Birds”. Meet at the old ranger station in the park promply at 9 am. The walk will cover both the river bank and wooded habitat. The walking should not be difficult, but wear good walking shoes and bring insect repellent. Binoculars and field guides will be helpful if you have them. We will be looking for the Cooper’s Hawk, American Crow, La. water thrush, White-eyed vireo, Red-eyed Vireo, Yellow-throated Vireo, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Flicker, Tufted Titmouse, Palm Warbler, adult Bald Eagle, Immature Bald Eagle, Kingbird, Catbird, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Chipping Sparrow, Brown Thrasher, Canada Goose, Northern Rough-winged Swallow, Northern Cardinal, Mourning Dove, Red-shouldered Hawk, Indigo Bunting, Carolina Wren, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Carolina Chickadee, Great-crested Flycatcher, Eastern Wood Pewee, White-breasted Nuthatch, Green Heron, and the Turkey Vulture. Look these up beforehand in your field guides or on the Cornell Ornithology Lab website if you have a chance.
See you Saturday. All bird lovers welcome. The park parking fee will be waived for those attending the Walk and Talk (but it is neat to have a park pass.)
This is a copy of Stanley’s May 1st T-G column, in case you missed it.
