Bob Sargent of DNR gave a great talk on Eagles in Georgia last Saturday and led us on a short hike to view the eagles nest in a large pine tree across the river from McIntosh. The highlight of the morning came when the eaglet decided to take some exercise; jumping up and down on the nest, stretching its 6′ wingspan and tearing at lunch! Bob set up a telescope so that everyone could get a close-up view. Bob explained that unlike other wildlife divisions of DNR the NonGame Division relies on donations in order to receive matching funds from the Feds.
