2019 July Report – DNR

Saturday, July 20, 2019:  Brent Hess and Paul Jones returned to the McIntosh boat ramp with the DNR electrofishing boat.  After explaining the various sampling techniques used in monitoring the health and quantities of the fish in the Chattahoochee and in area lakes and demonstrating the functioning of the boat, about 25 participants watched as they moved out into the river to collect samples.  Because the river was fast and muddy from recent storms, the catch was less numerous and varied than in other visits.  However, we saw carp, spotted bass, channel catfish, flat head catfish, the black tail shiner and the gizzard shad.  Brent and Paul discussed with the group the impact of invasive fish species, species characteristics and behaviors, and the uses of data obtained by these sampling techniques.
